I Wish I'd Made The Sony Bravia 'Balls' Advert

The Sony ‘Balls’ advert created by Fallon. Probably my favorite advert of all time. If you've never seen it then you need to, right now.

It's simple, bold and lots of fun. What a way to scream about colour!

This 2004 ad was created in San Francisco, with 250,000 colour balls shot down streets in the city. Sony had just changed their strap to 'Like No Other' and Fallon saw the opportunity to stretch their TV brief into a new realm of advertising.

I love this because it oozed confidence, not only within the execution but also in understanding the audience. They knew that the public wouldn’t be interested in a new TV without really understanding simply what it was offering. And in this case, it meant colour.

The advert is beautiful and cleverly constructed. They attracted a wide audience, people who probably wouldn't have ever been interested in a new TV. They sold a brand new piece of tech without showing the product.

Plus the whole thing was shot in three days and they only used raw cuts to make the final video.

Amazing.
